We didn' t have a permanent track in the DFW area 5 years ago. Mike Battaile
(the MB of MBRC)
would rent a rodeo arena, carve a track into the soft dirt using his small tractor,
lay a few boards down
and then chalk the rest of the track boarders with white lime. Mike had a portable
sound system that
he used (his wife Holly announced and scored alot of the races) and a computer
that worked part of
the time to run the lap counting system. Word would go out via the telephone
that there would be a
race this Saturday and with luck 20 to 40 racers would show up. I started the
newsletter as a means
to communicate with the gang and get race date information out to those that
had internet connections
at the time. What started with 20 people on my racers list has now grown to
over 200.
Not many hobbyshops carried parts for our 1/8 scales so everybody had a box
full of spare parts,
you could count on someone helping you if you broke a lower a-arm on your buggy
or gas truck.
You never wore out tires in the soft dirt, rooster tails out of the turns is
what it was all about. The
Cowtown Posse was our main track. As you can see in the pics, the pit areas
were set up on the far
side of the track. This also became pit lane, or wherever your pit person happened
to be turn-marsahlling
at the time. The owners of the Posse would break out his bbq and grill hamburgers
for the gang. The first
RC-Pro race was held at the Posse... ummm the pics of the mud and blown down
ez-ups are testament
to the results of that weekend. A strong storm came in Saturday night and completly
destroyed the track
and our pits....
I'm glad I was a part of the racing scene then, we no longer race at these venues,
they are just good
memories now a lot of us. Hope you enjoy this page..

RACING AT THE ALL-STAR ARENA
Located about 25 miles South of Arlington Tx in a little town called Lillian.
This was our back-up track for the winter when it got too cold to race at the
Cowtown.
It was a covered horse arena and had walls on three sides which helped keep
the
wind and cold out. We would all bring portable heaters and do our best to stay
warm when the temp, still managing to race even when the temps got down close
to freezing. I don't have alot of pics from this track, but you can see the
size of the
place allowed for some big track lay-outs. The portable bleachers became our
temp drivers stand (its a wonder noboby ever fell and broke thier neck). Good
times at the All Star Arena.
Indoor offroad track with excellent ventilation. Bring your own pit tables and
chairs.
Electrical power available, bring extension cords and power strip.
Indoor bathroom and running water outside. No concession stand
or restaurants closeby, so bring food/drink with you.

MBRC RACING AT LEWISVILLE
With no permanent tracks in the DFW
area, I decided to carve a practice track in
the field next to the office where I worked. At first it was just a dirt track
in a grass
field and we stood on a retaining wall as our drivers stand. Eventually we added
pipes
and I built a drivers stand... We raced on it a few times, the locals used it
alot for
practicing. I got too busy to spend time maintaining the track and JCGR was
coming
into the picture.... it is now a grass field again.
